Pavel Peterka & Pawsitive Parks

The project Skyrthalia vol. II – Pawsitive Parks will take place in Thessaloniki, Greece, from 3 to 22 December 2025. It is implemented as a 20-day volunteering in teams project under the framework of the activity “Be Sustainable, Sportive and Cultural” (compact action). Thessaloniki's stray animal crisis is pervasive, driven by low sterilization rates, limited funding, health risks from disease and parasites, and societal neglect or abuse. Despite commendable efforts from volunteers and animal welfare organizations, the scale of the issue demands comprehensive, coordinated action—including expanded neutering initiatives, stronger legal enforcement, increased municipal support, public education, and institutional resources. The project focuses on two main priorities: (1) Green practices for sustainable urban environments and (2) Protection, care, and support of pets’ quality of life in the city.

Motivation Letter

I would like to join the project Skyrthalia because I enjoy volunteering and being part of projects that combine sustainability, nature, and community life. I have experience in environmental volunteering with Hnutí Brontosaurus in the Czech Republic. I took part in activities such as protecting flowers in National Park, restoring wetlands and cutting grass on meadows to help endangered orchids. I also organized two weekend events for young people focused on nature and cultural protection, which gave me skills in teamwork and responsibility. In my home city, I am active in a community garden in Prague, where I help with growing vegetables and learn more about sustainable food production. I have already participated in an ESC project, and I really enjoyed the multicultural environment. Working with people from different countries was inspiring and motivating, and I would like to experience this again.
