Who is Cem?

Hello! I’m Cem, 24 years old, from Turkey, and I’m spending this summer in Thessaloniki as part of an ESC volunteering project :)

I come from Mersin, a sunny Mediterranean city in southern Turkey. Growing up close to the sea, among different cultures, and amid lively city life made me interested in people, places, and how communities live together.

Academically, I studied Sociology at Middle East Technical University in Ankara and completed a minor in Industrial Design. This combination shaped my interests in cities, culture, art, design, museums, and social life. Recently, I lived in Madrid for my master’s studies, and soon I will continue with the Erasmus Mundus RePIC program, which focuses on rethinking and redesigning post-industrial cities.

Outside of university life, I love discovering new places, visiting contemporary art museums, dancing, listening to electronic music, meeting new people, and having meaningful conversations. I would describe myself as warm, curious, energetic, creative, and quite social.

I joined this volunteering experience because it connects with many things I care about: creativity, cultural exchange, community, and learning by doing. I’m excited to contribute, meet people from different backgrounds, and experience Greece in a more personal way.
