Hi,

A collective creation

A month ago I started something new for the garden. The idea firstly came after my sister's visit in May. I wanted to make an inventory of Karatazou park flora. Because the place is beautiful, the ecosystems unknown to me and the plants strongly breaking the concrete had a potent impact effect on me, I felt the strength to start.

As an ESC volunteer it is also my task to produce a relevant work or project in relation with the volunteering topic. Thus, in addition to the garden improvement (subjectively..) I wanted to create a `tool` in use for the students, parents, teachers, volunteers, locals and all the people that would like to participate in the Epicurus school garden collective work.

What will it be finally?

As a big fan of botanic book, with their beautiful floral draws and useful description and relevant uses, I initially thought of something similar. I quickly realised it was not the most pertinent thing to do. I'm no botanist nor well teached about mediteranean flora. If the book is dedicated to the garden's interested what is the meaning of inventoring the maybe 10 sud-specied of pines trees in the park? It

may be a good topic for the 15th volume (dream, dream, it wont kill you..), not the fisrt.

I want this 'cahier' to be a testimony of the work many dedicated to this place so it could welcome the 4th Polichni primary school. To eplained what we do, have done and hope to do next. I want it accessible, artistic and pedagogical.

We will eplore the history of the garden and the park as a quick introduction. Then, we will give a complete ( and subjective ) definition of permaculture as well as an eploration into the self call 'conventional agriculture'.

We will focus, in a second time, on why is the garden a privilegious place to teach, not only biodiversity, and study. We will walk through the arguments favouring the garden as a mental-health protector and creativity incubator. The garden as a social life environement important participant and peace improver.

Ambitious or arrogant?

Will be disseminated in between the pages, plant information sheets, definintions, maintenances advices, draws, poems, interviews, youth workers and garden users testimony, and finally, returns of the students who cames inbetween March and June.

It will mainly be writen in hellenic but some shares could retain their french and english originals version.

We will see how it will be achieve by someone who can berely write weekly articles.

Summer is coming and we will next time talk about the solstice festivities.
