Last Saturday after the meeting with the association "we speak for autism" I had a meeting with a politician, candidate mayor of Pavlos Melas municipality. With the support of my supervisor, acting as an intermediary for English, we opened up talking about the situation of disability, facilities, infrastructures and career opportunities.
He told me a little about what the situation was like here, I told him instead how it was in Italy.Telling him also the differences I had seen, the laws we had, and how the whole situation was organized, there has been observed impotrant differences and mainly gaps and blanks between theory and real facts.
He asked me various questions as to understand the situation well, about how it workds in Italy concerning disability and social support and asked for various possible tips, seeking for his answers as to take ideas how could be modified here the current situation.
The abysmal difference is that here there is seperated and maybe even "distinguished" the disabled from the typical pupil, instead sharing all together same school yards and classes with all the others. Afterwards, we mentioned about local authorities' participation and contribution to career development and studies of disabled population. Italy and Greece, both share common practices, in GR mainly in private sector but in IT more through municipal associations by treating children after school and even during the night for supporting parents that work in "difficult hours" (midnight). Above all it concerns the continuous school work to see according to their skills where they can be inserted. Obviously not even by me can be considered the best system, because there are many laws of which, however, not all of them are really applied, so from theory to practice passes a great abyss that we must try to recoverobviously not even by me can be considered the best system. Furthemore, there are many laws of which, however, not all of them are really applied, so from theory to practice passes a great abyss that we must try to recover.
