I've been in Thessaloniki for a few days now and have had time to discover the city for myself. The area where I am staying is very nice and quiet, it is located in the old city center and I found a nice place where I already had a coffee.
Also, thanks to Eleni, on the first night she showed me some of the lively areas of the city and we went to a restaurant to have tea and taste the famous pastries. She also explained to me the history of the EER organization so that I could better understand who and how I would be working with.
Afterwards, I discovered the EER office and the park where most of the clubs are held. Eleni told me about the challenges the park faces, and the work that is being done there by the former volunteers. We also discussed some ideas for my individual project that may also be related to the park.
I also had my first morning in the school, where I got to meet the disabled children as well as the tutors and trainers. I also met Dimitri, who I will be working with, and we discussed an event we could put on for the disabled children.
Eleni gave me a bike so on Sunday I went for a bike ride to Neoi Epivates, it was really nice the weather was sunny and I ate in a restaurant in front of the sea. I liked the beache Agia Triada which is after Neoi Epivates, because it was quieter with more nature.
At the end of this first week, my impressions are that I feel really safe thanks to Eleni who is really attentive and gives me everything I need. Moreover, I am very excited to start participating in the different projects.
