October 28 Celebration Day

Writer's picture: Pauline LaruePauline Larue

Today was a special day because we celebrated the day of "ochi" (no). Indeed, as the inhabitants explained to me on October 28, 1940, Greece refused to collaborate with Mussolini. So they celebrate this day with a big parade in the city with military, youth, firemen, etc. They parade in the street with a military march to show their strength and their pride to have said "ochi" (no) to this ultimatum during the 2nd world war.

It was very impressive, it seemed as if the whole city was gathered to support and encourage with applause the people in the parade.

Afterwards, with Eleni and 2 of her colleagues from school, we went to the Bianca café which is located in the east of Thessaloniki. I really liked the atmosphere of this café with the terrace, the garden, the old building and the cello music.
