A unique international campaign is being launched in Thessaloniki this summer, combining art, science, education, and collective responsibility with the ultimate goal of raising awareness for accident prevention in all modes of transport and promoting sustainable mobility. This multifaceted initiative is organized by ESAEI EN ROI and the Panhellenic Support Association of Families of Road Accident Victims, with material inspired by the international school competition "I Strive for Road Safety."
The project, titled Green Velocity: Crash the Habit — Future is Forward, brings together young people, youth workers, and experts from across Europe and beyond, inviting us to break the harmful patterns of behavior that lead to accidents and environmental degradation. At the heart of the campaign lies the idea that art can transform societies and strengthen the quality of life.
The campaign includes:
Therapeutic art workshops, where participants express emotions, experiences, and hopes related to road safety and responsible transportation.
A cinema club screening films with educational, reflective, and pedagogical content on accident prevention and responsible mobility.
Micro-theatre performances, inspired by personal stories and the human cost of road accidents.
Educational visits to museums, including the War Museum of Thessaloniki, the Railway Museum of Thessaloniki and the Floating Naval Museum in the port of Thessaloniki, connecting history with modern prevention practices.
Discussions with experts and specialized training sessions, providing a multidisciplinary approach to prevention and sustainability.
A final symposium on July 25, 2025, which will present the work and expectations of the campaign, while simultaneously opening a public dialogue on global responsibility for road safety and green mobility.
The project is supported by the European Solidarity Corps (ESC) and reflects the broader framework of the 17 Sustainable Development Goals, highlighting the importance of collective action at political, economic, social, educational, family, and individual levels.
Young volunteers from countries including Slovakia, Greece, Hungary, Italy, Germany, Bosnia-Herzegovina, Montenegro, France, Poland, Luxembourg — as well as participants connected to Albania, Brazil, India, and Uzbekistan — will unite their voices for a common cause:A future with fewer victims, greater empathy, and greener choices.
